Shettima Orders Immediate Demolition Of Substandard Classroom Blocks Renovated By FG

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State yesterday rejected the shoddy work done by a Federal Government contractor at the Abbaganaram primary and junior secondary schools in Maiduguri metropolis.

The Federal Government had awarded a contract for the renovation of classroom blocks at the schools following their destruction by members of the Boko Haram sect. But the governor, who was at the schools’ premises for inspection, ordered that the recently renovated buildings be demolished immediately because according to him, the work is not accepted and not up to the quality and standard of projects being embarked on by the state government. 
“Honestly, those who were given the contract for renovation of these classroom blocks by the Federal Government assisted programme did a shoddy job, and we will not allow our students to continue using such structures, because apart from not conducive for learning, the structures have no ventilation,” Shettima said.

“We will release money immediately to demolish and reconstruct new classroom blocks in this school fitted with security lights, fans and other facilities that will make the students feel comfortable when learning,” he promised.
