WITH THEM ARE GOV. PETER OBI (2ND-L) AND THE DEPOSED NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF APGA, CHIEF VICTOR UMEH (R).
Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Anambra State, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike, has denied rumours that the relationship between Governor Peter Obi and the governor-elect, Chief Willie Obiano, has turned sour.
There were speculations that Obiano, who was hand-picked by Mr. Obi as his successor, had travelled abroad shortly after the governorship election last November to allow the governor have his way concerning the local government poll, which held last month, after advising him not to conduct it.
But debunking the rumour, Uzodike, who was speaking with reporters yesterday at Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government, said it was a figment of the peddler’s imagination.
He described the originators of such speculations as enemies of the state.
According to him, “there is no rift between Obi and Obiano. Obiano has been requesting Obi to award many contracts, including the proposed Anambra Airport.
“Obiano did not travel abroad because of the conduct of the local government election. Rather, he travelled to rest, as is the practice in overseas”.
The commissioner then advised Obiano to close his ears against such speculations if he wants to succeed like Gov. Obi.

President Jonathan Deserves The Support Of All Nigerians – Uduaghan

GEJ-UduaghanGovernor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has pleaded with Nigerians to give maximum support to the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in spite of the challenges facing the country.
He said leading the country might not be an easy task as widely assumed but that with the prayers of Nigerians, the president would succeed.
Uduaghan spoke in Abuja on Wednesday when he led leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party from his state on a solidarity visit to the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
He said his state would continue to support the president, who is also from the Niger Delta.
The governor said, “The state is solidly behind the President. He is one of our own and we thank Nigerians and we pray that they should continue with their support for him.
“It has not been easy, but with their prayers, he would surmount all the problems. Please, let us continue to support him. He deserves it”.
Gov. Uduaghan gave assurances that the party in Delta State, which he said was polarised before, had come together as all the factions have agreed to work together.
According to him, the presence of a former Federal Commissioner from the state, who also doubles as Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, at the meeting, was a testament to the unity of purpose of members of PDP in Delta State.
Clark, who was beaming with smiles, agreed with the governor, who he described as his “beloved son”.
Clarke also used the occasion to touch on the recent defection of some PDP members to the opposition, which he said was an exercise in futility as most of them would return to the ruling party.
“I know that where they have gone to, when the fire becomes hot there, they will come back to you to say can we come back. When they do, admit them”, Clarke told Mu’azu.
Uduaghan was accompanied on the visit by the state PDP stakeholders, House of Representatives members, local government chairmen and commissioners from Delta State.

We Don’t Know Whether PDP Is A Sailing Ship Or About To Wreck, Says Mu’azu

MUAZU-2-620x330National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu has said that the ruling party will require divine intervention to overcome its numerous challenges and to regain lost grounds.
Mu’azu made this known on Wednesday when Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan and Idris Wada of Delta and Kogi States respectively paid him a courtesy visit at the Wadata Plaza national secretariat of PDP in Abuja.
According to Mu’azu, “We must admit that the PDP has problems. The PDP needs prayers, sacrifice, commitment to move forward. We don’t know whether it’s a sailing ship or a ship that’s about to wreck.
“We know our party has lost some grounds so we must assess ourselves. We must mark ourselves, we must be true to ourselves, we must be sincere to ourselves and find out what is wrong.
“Mistakes have been made that require forgiveness and correction in order to reclaim lost grounds. If properly runned, PDP will achieve a lot. We have a job to build a party that will stand the test of time”.
Mu’azu again used the opportunity to launch a passionate plea to chieftains of the party that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging them to come back as the party’s doors are wide open to re-admit them.
“I want to use this opportunity and medium today to appeal to those members of our party who have decided to leave for a journey to unknown destination, to a strange land where they will never be accepted as home.
“This is your home so come back home because our doors are wide open. I assure you that we will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure that we deepen internal democracy in PDP.
“We are going to build after regaining our grounds to continue strengthening and deepening democracy and rule of law in our party”, he stated.
Pledging their unalloyed loyalty to the national chairman, Uduaghan and Wada said they have been mobilising support for the party in their respective states.
The governors said they have been able to win the support of the people in their states through human capital development in critical sectors.
We don’t know whether it’s a sailing ship or a ship that’s about to wreck.

Atiku Dumps PDP For APC Ahead Of 2015 Elections

Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may dump the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC before the end of next week, according o indications that emerged yesterday.
The decision to take the action and leave the party which gave him a platform to be Nigeria’s Vice President, was borne out of the frustration and humiliation the PDP has made him go through, just as he has concluded nationwide consultative tours of the six geo- political zones of the country where he brainstormed with stakeholders, leaders and supporters on his next political journey ahead of 2015 Presidential election, Vanguard reports.
A source at his Jabi office told Saturday Vanguard yesterday that Atiku Abubakar has concluded plans to leave PDP for APC, adding, “I am optimistic that he will formally leave PDP for APC next week,”
The 2011 Presidential aspirant on the platform of PDP has in the last two weeks visited associates, stakeholders, leaders, Elders in the South South, South East, South West, North Central, North West and North East geo- political zones of the country where majority of them voted for him leaving PDP for APC.
He had earlier told chieftains of the APC who visited him in a bid to make him join the party that they should give him time to speak to his stakeholders.
Atiku had raised some grievances against the PDP and substantiated his marginalization of not being wanted, even as he stressed that he is a BOT member by right but he is not being called to its meetings and so does not attend, adding that he is a NEC member by right under the constitution, but he has been barred from its meetings because invitations are not given to him.
He also complained that by the norms of the party, he is entitled to being invited to its PDP caucus and said that Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a former Vice President gets those invitations, but he gets none of those, adding that he is not considered as a major stakeholder in taking decisions affecting the Adamawa State Chapter of the party.
Atiku had said last week that, “there is a sustained effort by the party managers and government to entrench impunity and not to open up the party for democratic competition. Above all these, it is clear by now that the Governors who have remained in the party have given Dr. Jonathan an automatic ticket.”
The former Presidential candidate of Action Congress, ACN said last week that as a member of a party that changed to Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and formed a coalition called APC, he will not be a new person in APC as that is a familiar terrain if he finally joins them because his friends are mostly there and as a party, it offers what he described as a real chance for change and reform in the country.
“The citizens are tired of business as usual and seem determined to change from business as usual. He wants to be on the side of the people,” he said.
In a statement he issued last week and titled, “The Challenges of a Decision,” the former Presidential aspirant on the platform of PDP noted that he has begun consultation tour of Nigeria, Dubai and London, even as he said that there was what he termed a sustained effort by the party managers and government to entrench impunity and its lack of preparedness to open up the party for democratic competition, adding that his decision to defect to APC may be borne out of the fact that Governors elected on the platform of PDP have already given an automatic ticket to President Goodluck Jonathan for his re- election bid.
Meanwhile, a statement from his office to Saturday Vanguard yesterday said that the former Vice President yesterday concluded his nationwide consultative meeting with that of the North-East geo-political zone in Bauchi. [Vanguard]

Mrs Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, one of the wives of late Chief MKO Abiola, on Saturday declared that she would contest the 2015 governorship election in the state on the ticket of ACCORD Party.
Onitiri-Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election, made her intention public in a statement issued by her in Lagos.
The aspirant said that she joined the party to assist in the eradication of poverty
“Since there is no Independent Candidacy in Nigerian Political System yet, I needed to join a political party.
“During my search for the party to join, I found out that what we have on ground is severe poverty.
“I saw that the people of Lagos are yet to truly receive the dividends of democracy they deserve.
“I have seen the suffering of those caught in the grasp of poverty. I have also seen the great potentials our state can achieve,” she said.
Onitiri-Abiola said if she became successful at the polls, poverty, god-fatherism, money politics and corruption would be eliminated.
She said it was time for government at all levels to truly serve the people’s interest and raise their hopes and opportunities.
The aspirant said that she worked with her late husband in the struggle for the actualisation of the June 12 elections annulled by the military regime of former president Ibrahim Babangida in 1993.
She, however, said ACCORD party was the new way that would lead the people to the promised land where true benefits of democracy would be received.
The aspirant urged the people to stand up and accept change, adding that her party had their interests at heart.
Onitire-Abiola had in 2013 declared her intention to contest the 2015 governorship seat in the state, but did not mention the platform on which she would contest. [NAN]

“We are going to look at ways of dealing with this situation, because this community is porous and we must find way to improve security” the statement quoted Yero as saying.

The police detectives stormed the illegal workshop at about 12:45 pm, arresting five members of the gang.
According to Aduba, “the command uncovered a workshop where stolen vehicles are refurbished before they are sold to unsuspecting buyers”.

Aduba said the state police operatives, acting on a tip off, stormed the workshop and arrested five suspects, one Kelechukwu Okoye, Chidiebere Owuse, Nkemefuna Odenigbo, Nzube Eze and Chinedu Agulobe.

A Fulani herdsman has cut off the right hand of a farmer, Mallam Sani Abubakar who is a resident of Maduba Village of Zaki local government area of Bauchi state following a heated argument over grazing of cattle on his farm.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred when the victim who happens to be the owner of the farm attempted to drive away the cattle from his farm, but his action angered the herdsman leading to a heated argument.
It was in the course of the heated argument that the herdsman used a cutlass in his possession and severed the right hand of Mallam Sani.
Narrating his ordeal to newsmen while recuperating at Hadeja General Hospital in Zaki local government, Mallam Sani said that on that fateful day, he discovered that some cattle belonging to a herdsman who is a son to one Alhaji Gainako Bayaro were grazing on his farm.
He said that the herdsman did not make any move to drive his flocks out of the farm and when he attempted to drive them away, it resulted to a heated argument between him and the herdsman.
“The herdsman hit me twice with the flat side of his cutlass and then struck again with an extra force that cut off my right hand from the wrist as I also had to protect my face from sustaining any futher injury. When he discovered the magnitude of his offence, he panicked and escaped. Although the herdsman is at large, the brother of the herdsman is in police custody to assist in tracing his whereabouts,” Mallam Sani said.
He demanded for justice and called on the state government to assist him financially as he is incapacitated at the moment.

Jonathan’s Options: Negotiate With Boko Haram Or Thrash Them – Kwankwaso

Kwakwanso
Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has asked the Federal Government to either negotiate with the perpetrators of the violence and destruction of lives and property in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria, or take concrete and urgent steps to contain them.
Kwankwaso, who made the call in an interview, pointed out that there was urgent need to put an end to the raging violence in the North-East and stabilise the region’s economic base so that the crisis did not spread to other parts of the country.
The governor noted that it was no longer fashionable for the Federal Government to claim to be tackling the insurgence in the region while more and more people and property were being destroyed daily.
“I think that this is the right time for the President to come out and do the right think. The right thing is for the Commander-in-Chief to come out sincerely and either negotiate or fight what is happening in the North East and other parts of Northern Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said.
“I think the days of pretence should be over. I am surprised that many of those we spoke to said that many people were not serious in fighting the menace that is happening in the North-East and other parts of the north because some of them are saying that ‘na dem dem’.
And I don’t think that that approach will help. If you are a governor, every square inch in your state should be your own and not owned by ‘dem dem’. This issue of security, economy and education is very important.
“I remember that at a time when there was a serious security challenge in the Niger Delta, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua came up with a special amnesty programme whereby those men and women who were involved in the acts had to lay down their arms and ammunition for a better programme.
“I think the Federal Government should come up with something for the North-East. I am from the North-West and we are poor but the North-East is poorer and something needs to be done to arrest the worsening situation in the region.
“The issue is not allocating N2 billion in the budget for the North-East but taking the necessary steps backed by the required political will to end the violence in the region,” Kwankwaso noted
