Texas Man Gets Two Years in Jail for Shooting dog With Crossbow
Christopher Swilley, 49, was sentenced to two years in jail for piercing a black and white Husky’s leg and chest with an arrow when he shot it while it was lying down on April 11, 2012.
“This was unfathomable to do this to an animal for absolutely no reason,” said Assistant District Attorney Dawn Ferguson. “We are glad the jury stuck up for this stray dog and that he now has a happy, healthy life.”
After the shooting, Swilley fled the scene and the injured dog was discovered by a neighbor.
The dog underwent emergency surgery for its injuries and was taken in by the Humane Society of North Texas. It took two weeks for the dog, who has since been adopted by a family who named him “Dantes,” to recover from his injuries. He does still favor one side of his body.
