Education Ministry Staff Want Wike Sacked Over N900m Unpaid Allowances
According to the protesting workers, the money is over N900 million and has been released by the Federal Government.
Speaking to journalists at the entrance of the ministry, secretary of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Comrade Isaac Ojemhenka, said if by next Monday their grievances were not addressed, they would take further steps.
Addressing the protesting workers, Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, however, assured the protesting workers that he would take immediate measures to address the issue.
He said it was only on Monday, November 25, that the workers directly wrote to him, explaining that he immediately took action by directing the permanent secretary to address the issues raised by them.
Wike said: “The workers as senior civil servants are aware that I have no direct interface with them on the issues of promotion arrears which falls directly under the purview of the ministry’s management headed by the permanent secretary.
“I am addressing you here out of respect for our workers. I received your letter yesterday and immediately directed that action be taken by the permanent secretary and the ministry’s management.”
